SJCS Math Team
The St. Joseph Cathedral Math Team is open to students in the 7th & 8th grades. The team competes in the MATHCOUNTS competitions, which are sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the CNA Foundation.
Beginning in October, students meet two days a week during lunch and recess to practice problems and learn strategies. In February, students participate in the local competition. The top 10 competitors and the top two teams progress to state competition. State competitions are held in March at the University of Missouri-Columbia or the University of Missouri-Rolla. The top four competitors and the top coach then represent the state of Missouri at the MATHCOUNTS National Competition held in May.
The 2007-2008 SJCS Math Team is made up of 14 students. Eight students will be chosen to represent our school during the individual and team rounds at the local competition. The five students not on this year’s “official” team will also participate in the competition, but their scores will not be counted toward our individual and team totals. This year’s student participants are Julia Asmar, Cole Baumgartner, Jonas Branson, Maria Donovan,
Kyle Dorge, Cody Fisher, Megan Green, Robbie Husting, Allie Mitan, Margaret Morris, Brian Oxenhandler, , Erica Prasad, Meagan Rundle, & Becca Stokes.
